Hotel Estheréa is ideally located on one of the most beautiful and quiet canals in the centre of he city, only 300 metres from the Dam Square and the Royal Palace. Central Station, the main shopping district, museums and theatres are all within walking distance.

Hidden behind an elegant 17th century facade is a stylish and charming four star hotel with 71 recently renovated rooms, all, in addition to other facilities, also featuring wireless internet.

Our excellent facilities include a beautifully decorated lounge, library and hotel bar, all offering a warm and intimate ambiance. Our elevator reaches all five floors. Hotel Estheréa has been a family owned hotel for more than 60 years.

Hotel information

Hotel Estheréa was founded during the second world war by Maria Flieger-Gruyters, mother of three daughters. She lost her husband Joseph in the war and moved to Amsterdam to earn a living. She rented a house along the canal in which she started a small inn with 12 rooms. During the years after the war she also bought neighbouring houses and expanded her inn.

Today, the Estheréa has 71 rooms spread over 6 houses (4 houses along the canal and 2 houses in the Spuistraat, all connected with each other). Unfortunately, Maria Flieger-Gruyters passed away in 1992 and one of her three daughters, Elly Esselaar-Flieger took over together with her husband Rob and her three children Jan-Willem, Caroline and Esther. Today the third generation is setting forth what Maria started more than 60 years ago.

The historical buildings are dating back to the 17th century. The comfortable rooms are renovated approximately every 5 years. In addition to the listed facilities, they are all equipped with a private bathroom and wireless internet. Our elevator reaches all rooms.

In our elegant lounge with canal view we serve complimentary coffee and tea.
We sell foreign newspapers and there is a small library with books in different languages that you can borrow during your stay. We have colouring books and pencils for our small guests as well as baby beds and a high chair in the breakfast room (all free of charge).

Food & beverage

Our breakfast buffet is served daily from 7:00 am till 10:00 am. Breakfast at Estherea features freshly baked bread and rolls, muffins, muesli, yoghurt, milk, corn flakes, fresh fruit, fruit salad, a generous selection of cheese and cold cuts, different kinds of jam, honey, fruit juices, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, freshly brewed coffee and tea.
If you prefer to enjoy your breakfast privately, please inform us and we will serve you breakfast in your room, at no extra cost.

In our lobby there is free coffee, tea and hot chocolate 24 hours a day

Our attentive staff at the front desk is always happy to recommend you some excellent restaurants in the neighbourhood for lunch and dinner.

Hotel Estheréa is situated in the heart of the city center within walking distance from the Dam square, museums, main shopping area and night life.

Important information

On arrival at the hotel, the reception will request to make a credit card imprint as a guarantee during your stay. If no credit card is available, the hotel will ask for a prepayment of the total stay and an extra deposit of EUR 70 per room. If no additional items are charged to the room number, the EUR 70 deposit will be returned during check out.

We chose a superieur room, so we liked the size of the room and the spacious bathroom. The staff was wonderful. Great location, really close to everything. Fix price for taxi ride.

Pricy breakfast 16euro pp, so we never had breakfast at hotel. There is plenty of other restaurant around. We would a like a bath a little bigger, so 2 persons could fit, but it's a one person bath. They had trouble with the adult movie chanel. We pay for the superieur room, and we ask for the view on the canal, they told us it was an extra 20euro/night for the view on the canal!!!

the rooms are nicely decorated and the bathrooms apear to have been recently refurbished and are well equipped. The rooms at the back of the hotel are larger than the ones at the front (for the same price), although these have a great view of the canal. When staying just one night the front room is quite adaquate.

the room was fantastic. However, we would have preferred a twin bed so we could sleep next to each other rather than 2 single beds pushed together.

Beautiful lobby, clean room, nice view from our tiny room, pleasant helpful staff.

Room too small.(My choice as a trade off since I wanted the canal view and figured only sleeping there.) Clothing space limited. TV reception poor.
